The first batch of Su-34s deployed to Syria included aircraft with Borts 20, 21, 22, and 23; 25, 27, and a few others became evident by November 2015. All were painted in dark grey on top surfaces and sides (this colour tended to bleach quite quickly), with an ‘anti-glare panel’ in black-green in front of the cockpit. All the undersurfaces were in light green-blue, while radomes and dielectric panels were painted in traffic white. All of their national insignia, and most of registration-numbers were crudely overpainted (apparently with a brush) with dark grey. Mission markings – in the form of red stars applied below the front cockpit – began appearing in November 2015. This example (‘22 Red’, RF-95005) is shown with a weapons configuration including a pair each of R-73s, R-27Rs, KAB-500Krs, and FAB-250M-62s. Insets show other commonly deployed weapons, including (from left towards right): FAB-500M-62, BetAB-500, KAB-500Kr, ODAB-500, RBK-500AO-2.5RT, RBK-500AB-2.5, RBK-500SPBE-D, and RKB-500U (all seen ‘in action’ in Syria).
